President Obama

Published November 04, 2008 @ 08:07PM PT

Barack Obama won the U.S. Presidency tonight. This is something I hope that every voter can believe in no matter what party you are from.

After spending the past few days in Florida getting out the vote in the neighborhood of Hialeah, Miami - I have seen more than I can imagine. I have seen signs that say "Republicans for Obama" and kids that are riding down the street on bikes saying, "Obama! Obama! He will end the war in Iraq and lower our taxes."

Hialeah is a traditionally conservative area, but it is also representative of the middle class and the class of America that has yet to become official citizens. In this election, I found many in Hialeah who were willing to cross partisan lines and vote not for the present or the past, but the future. They were Cuban and Dominican; white and black; democrat and republican. Many of us joined hands, voices and votes this election season to go above and beyond the American Dream.

Welcome to the future. The future is what was at stake this year. The future of the Supreme Court. The future of Iraq war. The future of the broken health care system. The future of the global image of America abroad. The future of global warming. The future of equal pay for equal work. The future of funding for cancer research. The future of the economy.  The future of women, men, children and the unborn.

Thank you, Barack Obama. The future is now.

And now is the time to change the future! I was moved to tears watching President-elect Obama's speech but my favorite part was when he reminded America that his amazing campaign and historic victory were not the real change we need. He said now we have "the chance to make that change" and he is so right! And yes, we can! Especially through networks like Change-dot-org! What a wonderful world it will be!

I cried & cried last night... I was at the Obama rally here in Nevada on Saturday, seeing him in person was an amazing experience I'll never forget.

This is a historic day - not just because Obama is black, but because so many people mobilized to get him elected.  I've never seen such effort!

    YES WE CAN!!!
