The Feminist Majority reports that the three anti-choice measures put on the ballot in Colorado, California and South Dakota failed on November 4th. Local initiatives are often a good way to identify the pulse of the electorate on difficult issues such as reproductive health and it seems that the tide of the women's movement went in the right direction this year and voters did not allow these measures to chip away at their reproductive health.

I'm not trying to be insensitive, but I thought the "fetal personhood amendment" was kind of ridiculous. I mean, if something like that passed, then where would that leave pregnant women? Driving in the carpool lane? Having to pay two admissions to movies? Getting a child tax credit or having to claim a dependent on their taxes? It opens a real can of worms.

I am so happy to hear these things were defeated. I am an educator (kindergarten). Abortion is the lesser of two evils. If the child is unwanted I would rather see a mom make the decision then. So many times that child is abused into adulthood. I have seen children with cigarette burns, cuts, burns from hot liquids. I believe birth control, abortion, decisions regarding women should be up to the individual woman. It is her body and her decision. I was raised Roman Catholic. Many Catholics believe the way I do even though, they love the church.
