Could Carrie Bradshaw Have Survived the 1930s Dating Scene?
Published October 29, 2009 @ 11:46AM PT
If you're a single girl in her twenties like me - or ever have been - you know that dating can often be full of trials and tribulations. It is often a petty, guessing game of who likes who more (or less) and a jigsaw puzzle of emotions, coy remarks and the never ending "chase" to get a man (or woman depending on your sexual orientation).
But, no matter how many episodes of Sex in the City I need to watch in order to try and understand my new dating life in New York City, I will always know that things could have been a LOT worse.
Just take a look at this photo gallery: A Single Girl's Guide To Dating. It's from the 1938 issue of Parade Magazine - even Carrie Bradshaw would have had to learn a few new tricks to be able to survive during this time period:

Well, looking at it from a man's perspective...
Men do on average tend to be more likely to be jealous and insecure but I suppose the same could be said for women as well...At least in regards to relationships. (Applies to both)
In any case, I think this whole guide being illustrated here is wrong not because it isnt (Erroneously) touching on important rules of courtesy when it comes to dating but also because it focuses entirely on how the woman should act and says nothing about how the man should treat the woman.
My policy when it comes to dating is to focus primarily...Not neccessarily exclusivly on my date/partner and I would expect the same from her.

WOW, that wanton huzzy, is she giving the guy a SHAMPOO in 2nd photo, or brazenly checking for lice? Her date should be thanking her!
